Loo Foh Sang was born on November 5, 1944, in Gambang, Pahang, Malaysia. He studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore from 1963 to 1965, and in 1966 furthered his education at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During this time, he trained under Stanley William Hayter (1901–1988), the renowned printmaker and founder of Atelier 17, regarded as the most influential printmaking studio of the 20th century.
Since 1963, Loo has held 38 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 80 international printmaking biennales. From 1996 onwards, he organized three International Contemporary Printmaking Art Shows in Malaysia.
His outstanding contributions have earned him numerous honors, including the Asia-Pacific Art Golden Award (2009), the Global Golden Brand Award (2010), the Malaysia Blossom Arts Award (2017), and the Lifetime Achievement Gold Award in Art (2018).
