Tan Pek Cheng, born in Johor, Malaysia, graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, in 1965. Later that year, she pursued further studies in sculpture at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1964 and 1965, she trained in oil and ink painting under the renowned artist Chong Siew Peng. Her artistic repertoire includes still life, florals, portraits, and figurative works. Tan is especially recognized for her depictions of maternal love, where delicate brushwork and layered color gradients evoke grace, tenderness, and intimacy. By blending feminine sensibility with vivid tropical hues, her paintings reflect both the subtle elegance of women and the vibrant spirit of Southeast Asia. Her works, though often born of imagination, resonate with the warmth and reality of Malaysia’s tropical landscapes, creating scenes that are at once poetic and authentic.
